The 2005
annual conference of the Art Association of Australia and New Zealand is
being hosted jointly by the Sydney College of the Arts and the Department
of Art History
and Theory/Power Institute Foundation for Art & Visual Culture. From the studio to the studyThe historical relation between ideas of art and its material practice, from antiquity to the present. Practitioners as theoreticiansThis section encompasses issues of artists’ writings, statements, and pedagogy. It includes indigenous and non-western arts, and the status of theory in primarily oral cultures. It considers the possibility of theorizing through the art-work. Practitioners are encouraged to propose papers in this section. Contemporary practices and critical theoryThis section
will include film and new media, and the relation between new technologies
and their languages of articulation.
The conference will be held on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd of December,
with the first keynote lecture presented on the
evening of Wednesday
30th November.
The opening formalities will be held at the Sydney College of Art
(Rozelle Campus), and the main sessions in the Camperdown Campus of
the University of Sydney, in the Eastern Avenue complex.
